Worship
To say it simply: You ought to feel a whole lot better walking out of church on a Sunday morning than you did walking in. That’s what my work is.
To say it with more words…
Worship should be a transporting experience. When we do it right, the hour in the sanctuary is a liminal space, a time and place set apart for people to be unburdened, opened up, and connected -- deep, wide, and high.
I try to preach in a way that "teaches" only as a distant second or third goal but foremost affirms and energizes the faith resources people have within and draws them closer to their deepest selves, the people around them, and the power that transcends them.
Preaching is a celebration that emphasizes gratitude, for life and freedom, for the gifts we've been given, the love around us, and the amazing work we get to do in building the world together.
I feel UU worship is partly distinguished by the way we include members of the congregation in the creation of worship. The idea of being co-creators is central to my ministry in the sanctuary and beyond.
